What to know before we dig

Between the lighthouse, the harbor and Monomoy, a lot of Chatham homes sit close to salt water, on sandy soil and inside coastal flood zones. That shapes the pool: where it can go on the lot, how deep we dig, and how the equipment is set up to handle salt air.

Many Chatham pools belong to summer homes, so we handle the season start to finish for owners who are not here in April or October.

Anywhere on the Cape, a few rules travel with every pool: Massachusetts requires a barrier around it, most homes are on septic, so the leach field decides where the pool can sit, and lots near water or wetlands go through the town's Conservation Commission.
